Engaging Stakeholders

Your organisation does not operate in a vacuum. You cannot simply bury your head in the sand and do what you want. All sorts of people have a direct or indirect stake in your operations, performance and success. They include staff, customers, shareholders, suppliers, distributors and professional services.

They have their own expectations, priorities and concerns. Only you can make the decisions but they have views on what you should do and where you are going. Your success therefore depends on the support of these third parties.

How well do these relationships work individually and together? Do arrangements facilitate success or are they a bureaucratic nightmare? How easy is it to react to change? Do parties share the same goals or do conflicting priorities get in the way?

How much influence do you have over them? How do you monitor performance and seek improvements? Maybe you get some simple feedback or conduct the odd survey. But that is only scratching the surface.
